RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR – WINNER

Thomas Homes – winner of Residential Development of the Year at the prestigious Thames Valley Property Awards 2018, for our development at 16-40 London Road in Reading.

This award goes to a specific housing development in the Thames Valley that stands out from the competition. Size doesn’t matter, judges considered small brownfield developments and large housing estates. The entry could have been an innovative conversion of a building, so Permitted Development (PD) schemes were eligible.

Judges looked for evidence of good design, environmental impact, sustainability, and whether the scheme has overcome unusual challenges and site constraints. The final awards ceremony took place on Thursday 3 May at Ascot Racecourse, and the Residential Developmemnt of the Year category was sponsored by Savills.

Originally built as residential dwellings, the imposing buildings, which take prime position in London Road, formed part of the University of Reading’s London Road campus for many years. The stylish one and two-bedroom apartments have been thoughtfully designed to offer an exceptional standard of living. Great attention has been paid to restoring and enhancing the building’s original features, from the imposing front doors and grand entrance halls, through to the classic fire places and cornice detailing inside some of the apartments.

Hugh Thomas, Managing Director of Thomas Homes said: “Converting historic buildings such as 16-40 London Road is one of the challenges we embrace at Thomas Homes, and it is extremely satisfying for all involved to see the buildings and surrounding area being given a new lease of life for many years to come.”

Apartments at 16-40 London Road are priced from £285,000, and with the governments Help to Buy scheme qualifying purchasers would only need a 5% deposit of £14,250 to purchase their new dream home. The sales centre and show apartment is open Thursday to Monday 10am to 4pm on telephone (0118) 931 1409.
